How to setup custom domain for your blogger blog?

When you register your blogspot blog, you will get a new blog with some URL like http://yourblogname.blogspot.com . This blog will be hosted on Google’s servers and you can make posts on your blog by logging in at Blogger.Com. Now Custom domain means that we will be using our own domain name instead of having the .blogspot.com extension. That is our blog URL will look something like http://www.yourblogname.com When you use a custom domain, your blog will still be hosted on Google’s servers and you can continue making posts from Blogger.com as you usually do.So the only thing that changes is the blog’s URL

How much does this Cost?

For using a custom domain you should buy your own domain name. The price of the domain name will vary depending on the domain extension that you choose. But normally most of us will prefer to buy domains which ends with a .COM .COM, .ORG , .NET domains will cost something near to10 US Dollars. So you just need to spend 10-12 dollars and you can have your blog running at the new domain which you buy.

Where to Buy the domain from?

There are many domain registration websites.  You can directly buy your domain from any of them. If you are in the United States, you can use Google Domains which integrates well with Blogger.

How to buy the domain and setup my blog with the new domain?

If you want to setup your custom domain by buying the domain from Google Domains, then you need to go to Settings > Basic and under the publishing section, you have to choose the Buy a domain option(This is currently only available in the United States as Google Domains is now under Public Beta).

In case Google Domains is still not available in your country, you can easily choose an alternate Domain name provider like Name.com or Godaddy. These are trusted domain name registrars and the domain names will cost somewhere near 10-12 dollars on these websites. You might find some coupon codes on the web which can further reduce the cost. As these are third party registrars, you will have to do some manual configuration to publish your blog to your domain name. This configuration is quite simple and we have tried our best to explain it in detail with descriptive screenshots.

  8. ok but it is always better to use sites like godaddy for registering domains.. ok here is another solution which works for godaddy.. not sure if it will work for you..

In your domain control panel there should be an option to redirect urls. there just enter www.freewaresnbeta.com and give a try.. don't use any trailing slash (/) . just see if it doesn't cause a redirect loop..sometimes it can take time for the changes to appear..

  9. This post is realy useful.I have recently transfered all my blogs on blogger to custom domain address. My sites are still hosted on Blogger,so I have all the Blogger features. But none of the hassle of having to map my domain or set my D.N.S. settings Blogger set everything up for me. I would recomend anybody who wants a custom domain to get a blog from Blogger first, then follow settings to host on custom domain, rather than go to somewhere like Wordpress, where you have to set it up all by yourselfe. Also custom domain through Blogger is cheaper too, just 12 us dollers per year.Andrea.

  10. I registered for a domain yesterday before I found your blog, but I was wondering how come it still doesnt redirect my blog to the new domain.

Only here did I know that I'd need to wait up to 3 days for it to set up. Thanks a lot for your post, this is helpful.

I am asking this because i dont want face any problems in google webmaster, for my blog indexing.

    Eagerly waiting for reply......

  19. @vasay - yes you should use the redirect option in the Blogger Publishing Tab. But for that option to work, you should create the 4 A Records for your domain. Refer http://www.bloggerplugins.org/2009/08/blogger-custom-domain-on-godaddy.html

Note: DNS changes take time to propagate.

  20. wow fast reply.....

ok should i remove the forwarding (forwarded to www.example.com) i did in gogaddy and then continue to your procedure...

  25. hey thanks for the wonderful info. But i do have a doubt. Assume that I registered my blog to a domain. In such case will i have all the posts and my users? Will i have the same Template which i am having in my blog right now? Will i have the same posting options as in blogger? I mean New Posts or Edit posts and so on. Or should i start the design from Scratch?

  26. I was just looking for this info for some time. After six hours of continuous Googleing, at last I got it in your website. I wonder what’s the Google’s issue that does not rank this type of informative websites closer to the top. Generally the top sites are full of garbage.
